Declamation

Declamation is the interpretation and presentation of a non-original speech. These speeches may be historical (Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech, etc.), adapted from magazine articles, or any number of other adaptations of non-original material.

  • Time limit is 7 minutes.

  • It is not memorized - a script in your black book is used.
  • You must have a brief, memorized introduction.

For Competition, stay away from speeches that:

  • Are overdone or cliché (JFK Inaguration, MLK “I Have a Dream”, etc.)

  • That don’t fit you as a performer. (i.e. don’t do a speech that is presented by a Hispanic male if you are a white female.)

  • That are boring.
